Achieving Excellence by Nido R. Qubein

“You do not have to be a superhero to achieve excellence. All you need is a commitment to do more than ordinary people do – and do it consistently, in spite of the bumps in the road. Make that commitment today, and follow it to your promising future…” — Nido R. Qubein

We all face obstacles on a daily basis. The difference between those that fail and those that wind up being successful is what we do with those bumps/obstacles. Some people want to avoid them so they do very little in hopes of running into less bumps. Some slowdown to a crawl in hopes of avoiding the bumps. Some try taking a different road only to find it has more bumps. The key is not to spend thought or time on avoiding the bumps. The roads we will travel on in life will be full of bumps so we should not be focused on avoiding the bumps, we should be focused on our goals, as this will help us overlook the bumpy road as we travel toward our goals.

As stated above, when we focus on avoiding the bumps we are not focused on our goals. We can’t be when our goal and focus is avoiding the bumps. When we go to slow so the bump has a lesser effect, though we may eventually reach the goal, we will have only achieved minimal in our lives due to our focus again being on the bumps and not on the goal. When we come to a fork in the road and we view it both roads, we often take the easiest route only to find out that road looked easy up front but had huge bumps and ruts and rocks in it later. Choosing the easy road up front hoping to avoid bumps, we find we chose the hardest road in the long run and again though we may get to our goal, we have been beat up by the road and are not in shape to attempt or set another goal. Thus, our goal achievement is reduced because our focus being on avoidance rather than on our goals.

As Mr. Qubein said, all that is needed is to do a little more than what is being done by the majority and do it consistently each and every day. When we do this, we wind up accomplishing more, much more in the long run and our lives are the better for it. That is the key to a promising future.

Best of LUCK as you
