Life Comes With Problems

“For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin – real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be got through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, or a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life…” Fr. Alfred D’Souza

It is true; life is what YOU make of it. It is also true; YOU are the only one with the power to make something of it. Too many of us have given this power over to someone or something else rather than taking responsibility for designing our own future. Too many of us have quite trying due to the failures we have faced or been through. Too many of us have decided to accept status quo. We are no longer pushing to become all we are capable of becoming or achieving and gaining all that is available.

Have you ever noticed as small children we are not as conscious of that which we later determine to be ‘problematic’ as we are when we get older? It seems the older we get the more skeptical we become. The older we get the more we avoid problems and pressures and anything or everything that would or could be perceived as such. It may be easier to say the older we get the more pessimistic we become, believing less in our ability to succeed and more in our ability to fail.

A small child will usually hit things head on, sometimes literally, and learn from the process. When a child learns to respond properly, this child avoids hitting his head by becoming more conscious of surroundings. If a child was to react instead of responding, this reaction may cause the child to avoid walking for a period. Reverting instead back to crawling a little longer due to the fact that walking caused some ‘head or body trauma’ the child does not want to reproduce.

As we grow we find ourselves in similar situations where we avoid that which causes other types of ‘head trauma’. For instance we may become embarrassed by something we tried or attempted to do, but at which we failed or better stated did not hit the target. We may not have met the expected result, or was unable to keep it afloat; these can definitely be a head trauma we do not want to repeat. The issue is there is no such thing as failure UNLESS you have decided NOT to try again.

If you were learning to shoot and you set up a target with a bullseye, but hit off to the side, you wouldn’t quit shooting, would you? If you did you would never learn how to properly shoot and be accurate when you did. The fact is you would keep shooting until you became skillful enough to hit the bullseye the majority of the time and in certain and uncertain conditions. The practice would help you get comfortable with the gun or guns and you would become proficient or even an expert at shooting.

We have to look at life the same way. We have to recognize our entire life, not just our childhood, is a learning process. Our entire life is filled with obstacles that will never end while we still are living on this planet. The road-blocks, obstacles, and detours we face are simply to be viewed as a part of daily living. Once this is recognized and accepted, life becomes easier to face. When we view life properly, Life then has the opportunity to be used to pay us what it is we want. When we have the view of being fearful of that which could happen instead of being excited about the good that can happen, our skewed view leaves us and the control of our lives in the hands of something outside ourselves. It is obvious which view we should take and yet it seems the majority do not.

Having the proper view of life is really the key to living a successful life. Too many have the mindset that at one point in their life they will have learned enough, become wise enough or old enough to not have the problems, hassles, and obstacles faces when younger. This is simply not true. One’s age, IQ, or status, has nothing to do with whether they are going to face obstacles or not. Living on this planet is what determines if they are going to face obstacle

The bottom line is to quit thinking such things as:

• When I get to a certain age then problems will become less and less…

• When I get past a certain level of learning then things will get easier…

• When I get a certain amount of money then I will start taking classes…

• When I get that promotion then we can have a baby…

• When I get older then I will have more patience…

• When…

What you want is to think you have the power to do what you want, NOW. Don’t wait until tomorrow to start living your life. Start living it today. Don’t wait for anything or allow anything to keep you from making the correct decision to move forward and begin LIVING today. Remove the WHEN and start with the NOW!

Don’t wait for life to get easier, become what it takes to make life work for you – not against you. Jim Rohn said, “Don’t wish life was easier, wish you were better. Don’t wish for less problems, wish for more skills. Don’t wish for less challenges, wish for more wisdom.”

Best of LUCK as you
